Hypnotherapy

A different way of working with your mind

Hypnotherapy is a gentle and focused approach that can help you make positive changes by working with the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and patterns that influence how you experience life.

Our minds can sometimes develop habits and responses that no longer serve us. We may know logically that we want to think or behave differently, but still find ourselves reacting in the same familiar ways. Hypnotherapy can help you access a deeply relaxed and focused state, allowing you to explore these patterns and begin developing new, more helpful ways of responding.

What actually happens during hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that we all experience in everyday life. You may have experienced something similar when becoming completely absorbed in a book, film or journey, or when your mind wanders while doing something familiar.

During hypnotherapy, I guide you into a deeply relaxed state where you remain aware, conscious and in control throughout. You cannot be made to do something against your will, and you are not unconscious or asleep.

Instead, relaxation and focused attention can make it easier to step back from your usual thought patterns and become more receptive to new ideas, perspectives and possibilities.

As a trained counsellor and hypnotherapist, I can also draw on my counselling skills to make the work more individual and meaningful to you. We can explore what is happening for you and consider what you would like to change, rather than simply focusing on the symptom itself.

How can hypnotherapy help?

Hypnotherapy can be used for a range of personal goals and difficulties, including:

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Fears and phobias

  • Unhelpful habits and patterns

  • Relaxation and emotional wellbeing

  • Building motivation

  • Letting go of limiting beliefs

  • Preparing for a particular event or change

  • Developing a more positive relationship with yourself

Everyone is different, so I tailor the approach to you and what you want to achieve. For some people, hypnotherapy may be the main focus of our work, while for others it can complement counselling.

You remain in control

One of the biggest misconceptions about hypnotherapy is that you somehow lose control. You don't.

You remain aware of what is happening and can speak, move, stop the process or come out of hypnosis whenever you wish. Hypnotherapy isn't about handing control over to someone else — it's about learning to work with your own mind in a different way.

Sometimes, making a change isn't about trying harder. It can be about understanding what's keeping you stuck and finding a different way forward.

If you're curious about whether hypnotherapy could be right for you, I offer a free 15-minute discovery call where we can talk about what you're hoping to change and whether this approach feels like a good fit.
